Sunfish slipjoint GOLD VERSION
Mother-of-pearl and forged feather Damascus — two elements that bring refinement and story to a blade.
Mother-of-pearl Mother-of-pearl (nacre) is prized for its iridescent depth and organic luminosity. On a knife, it reads as both decorative and tactile: the subtle play of color catches light and adds a refined contrast to dark or matte handle materials. It’s also dense and stable when properly sourced and set, making it an ideal material for shields and accents. In these pieces I used elegant Mother-of-Pearl shields to complement the dark, bold scales — a small touch that elevates the whole aesthetic without overpowering the pattern work.
Forged feather Damascus is made by repeatedly manipulating billet geometry, cutting, stacking, and forging to reveal flowing, feather-like motifs. The process my friend @forgiasantamargherita used for these feathers starts with layered steels, then precise forging and strategic distortions to create those elongated, radiating plumes. The result is a blade surface that reads like movement frozen in steel: delicate, organic, and highly dimensional.
How those feathers pair with the build These two knives are smaller than my usual size but loaded with deliberate choices:
Handle: full #fatcarbon GOLD VERSION scales for a bold, modern look and substantial handfeel.
Liners & springs: 416 stainless liners and ATS-34 springs for reliable corrosion resistance and spring tension.
Stops: only open/closed stops for a clean, traditional action.
Shields: elegant Mother-of-Pearl, lending contrast and a touch of classic elegance to the dark carbon scales.
Dimensions
Blade edge: 55 mm
Closed: 85 mm
Overall length (OAL): 145 mm
These pieces are fresh off the bench—compact, balanced, and finished to showcase both the feather Damascus pattern and the mother-of-pearl accents.
