Barlow’s Slipjoint
Micro Barlow’s slipjoint — and yes, my fingertips paid the price on the sand belt while crafting this little marvel. It measures a compact 4.5 cm at the cutting edge, giving a total length of 12 cm when opened (obviously 😝). The blade and spring are forged from high‑carbon 1095 steel for reliable edge and springiness, while the liners and bolsters are soldered in 416 stainless for strength and finish. Paired with gorgeous FatCarbon scales, this piece balances tradition and striking modern aesthetics. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift. This one is AVAILABLE — thanks everyone, please like and share!
O2 is an oil-hardening tool steel prized for its excellent toughness, ease of sharpening, and reliable edge retention. It contains moderate carbon and added oxygen-scavenging elements, giving good wear resistance while remaining relatively ductile compared with higher-alloy steels. O2 is easy to heat-treat to a sharp, durable edge and performs well in utility and heavy-use knives where resistance to chipping and straightforward maintenance are important. It’s not stainless, so it requires regular cleaning and oiling to prevent rust, but its workability and toughness make it a favorite for handcrafted, hard-use blades.
