Forging journey in Pennsylvania

In February, I embarked on a creative journey to Hellertown, Pennsylvania, where I joined my friend Luke Dellmyer for a series of intense and enjoyable days in his workshop. Together, we focused on forging a set of collaboration knives, specifically crafting five Damascus twisted steel EDC (Every Day Carry) blades in just a day and a half.

The atmosphere in the shop was electric, filled with laughter and camaraderie as we immersed ourselves in the process of shaping the steel. Our shared passion for bladesmithing allowed us to experiment and refine our techniques, resulting in a unique blend of our styles. The collaborative effort not only strengthened our friendship but also produced a collection of knives we were proud of.

During our stay, we had the opportunity to meet fellow bladesmiths and enthusiasts, forming connections that went beyond the workshop. In our downtime, we explored the vibrant city of Philadelphia, where we enjoyed local culture and cuisine. These experiences enriched our trip, making it truly memorable.

As we prepared for the Lehigh Valley Knife Show, the energy and excitement of our crafted pieces filled the air, setting the stage for what would be a remarkable display of our work. The adventure in Hellertown was not just about making knives; it was about the joy of creation and the bonds formed along the way.The journey of creating a knife begins with selecting the finest materials. For each piece, we start with high-quality steel and raw materials, ensuring durability and functionality.

Once the materials are gathered, the process of forging begins. The steel is heated to extreme temperatures and shaped using traditional methods. This stage of creation showcases the skill involved in blending modern techniques with time-honored craftsmanship.

After the forging process, the knife undergoes precision grinding. Each edge is meticulously crafted to ensure optimal performance. Our commitment to detail ensures that every knife not only looks beautiful but also performs exceptionally well.

Next comes heat treating, a critical step that enhances the knife’s hardness and flexibility. This process transforms the steel, resulting in a blade that can withstand rigorous use while maintaining its sharpness.

Finally, each knife is polished and finished, highlighting the unique patterns of Damascus steel where applicable. The completed product embodies quality and craftsmanship, ready to serve its purpose for years to come.

The journey of each knife tells a story of dedication, expertise, and passion for the art of bladesmithing. Through a series of images and videos, we invite you to witness this unique creation process.

Two of our knives are available in my shop. Check them out! Two more are already in the States, email me for more.
